Mexico Under Pressure
On February 22, 2026, the Mexican military carried out a massive security operation in the state of Jalisco. The main goal of the mission was to find Nemesio, also known as “El Mencho”, Oseguera Cervantes, who was the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. During the confrontation, it was confirmed that the cartel leader had been killed.
Right after the operation ended, a wave of violence broke out in several states, such as Jalisco and Colima. Cartel members started setting cars and trucks on fire to block highways and streets. These roadblocks were used to stop the military from moving around and to cause chaos in those areas.
The Mexican government responded by sending thousands of extra soldiers and National Guard troops to the affected cities. They wanted to quickly take away the burned vehicles and reopen the roads for traffic. President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that the military would stay in these areas for a while to make sure no more violence happens.
It has been a few days since this has happened, and most cities are starting to get back to their normal routines. Schools and businesses that were closed during this time are starting to reopen. The government is allowing a lot of security in the streets to make sure everything is under control.
