NORTE VISTA WINTER SPORTS RALLY

Nolan Montelongo is a Junior in Boys wrestling. He started the sport his freshman year with a group of friends. But out of them all he was the only one who stayed in the sport.
“Most people consider it late when I started, it is. But I try working as hard as I can to make up for that lost time!” stated Nolan Montelongo
He is someone who enjoys wrestling due to the feeling of knowing that had he changed his moves he could have had completely different outcomes.
Nolan Montelongo states “As of now the thing that always sits in the back of my mind is when I lost to a kid from Rowling High School, due to being caught in a dumb move even though I was winning beforehand.”

Monica Duarte is a sophomore and has been a part of the girls wrestling team since her freshman year. She joined the wrestling team in search of something different, yet challenging.
“I started wrestling because I wanted to try something different and challenging.” stated Monica Duarte
She loves the team and how they all work together to compete as well as the support she gets from her coaches and teammates.
When asked what her favorite part of the sport Monica Stated “My favorite thing of the sport if the team, They help me with competing and I can always count on them for support and my coaches”

David Zepeda is a senior and has been playing soccer for about 8-9 years. His father and close relatives have helped him out with soccer and were the ones to encourage him to join. He likes the feeling of how he never knows how a game will go.
“I enjoy how unexpected it is. It doesn’t matter how good you are playing, or how good the team is, anything could happen.”
His craziest game so far had been against Troy High school his junior year. It was their first game of CIF and they were able to win 2-1.
When asked if he would keep playing after high school he stated “I’ve thought about it, but I haven’t really considered it as much”
Brandy Lucero is a senior and has been playing Soccer since she was 5 years old. She found soccer to be a sport that she loves and wanted to dedicate herself to.
“I started playing for fun, and as I got older I grew to love the sport and knew it was something I wanted to be dedicated too” states Brandy Lucero
Brandy is the winger and striker. Focusing on being fast and making scores. A game that has left an impact on her was a recent game against Jurupa Valley as it was what granted them a spot in the CIF.
When asked what she loves about her team she states “I love the friendship we create, I have meet some of my closest friend because of soccer and have gotten to meet many people and hear about their own experiences”

Matthew Olivas is a senior and has been playing for 6 years. He started playing in honor of his grandmother who enjoyed watching him play as a kid.
“I used to play basketball outside of school but I don’t anymore” States Matthew Olivas
He plays as the small forward and shooting guard. His job is to make sure that his teammates and him are able to make open shots. This allows him to shoot the ball while also making sure he makes the right plays.
When asked what had left an impact on him about Basketball he stated “What left an impact on me is how we are able to play when we are in sync and play as a team”
Kasaya McQuirter has been playing basketball since her freshman year. She started playing as she has always been athletic wanted to try something new.
When asked if she would play after High school Kasaya McQuirter stated “It’s a possibility but I don’t think it is something I’m going to do.”
Her sophomore year game was also her coaches birthday and they had beat patriot that day after 25 years that was a game that she still remember till this day.
When asked what about basketball had impacted her she stated “it had helped me be a better person, and helped boost my confidence.”

Abigail Hernandez had been playing water polo since her Freshman year, and decided to remain for her high school year on the team after having found that she loves the environment and the people who motivate her to keep going.
Abigail Hernandez stated “I first started playing the sport because I didn’t want to be in P.E but I have grown to love the sport and what has come with it over the years.”
Abigail plays as the goalie of her team. Being the goalie is an important position as it is the last line of defense and it allows her to see everything that is going on so that she can help her teammate when they can’t.
“My most memorable game was in my junior year in CIF’s second round in which I got a buzzer beater shot as a goalie.” states Abigail when asked about what her favorite game was.
