NATIONWIDE GAS PRICES RISE
With the recent war that is going on between the US, Israel, and Iran, many students and teachers can no longer ignore the rising gas prices. Having to cut back on spending and become more cautious about what they are spending on.
“It makes me pause. We’re not at the point where we were completely cut out, because we’re hoping things will settle down, but we definitely have stopped and said, ‘Oh my gosh, is it worth the gas?’” said Ms. Halsne.
Gas prices have significantly surged recently, with the price of a barrel reaching nearly $100, having previously been marked at $67 a barrel. On March 6th, the barrel price hit $90, and gas prices were rising by 34 cents, then an additional 43 cents the following day. Contributing to this rise are tensions between the countries, due to Iran’s threats against the U.S. and Israeli-linked ships, and Kuwait’s reduction in its oil production, with reports suggesting that the U.S. might start to rely on oil from Russia and other countries to compensate for the loss.
“Weekly, I would spend about $30-$40 on my car, which, bear in mind, is a small one, and now I estimate I might spend maybe about $50 this week with the price for gas going up,” said Jason Cardenas.
Due to the rising price of oil, forms of transportation are also seeing an increase in their charging prices. This has also caused many stores to raise the price on goods that require transportation.
President Donald Trump stated in an NBC News interview, “I knew oil prices would go up if I did this, and they’ve gone up probably less than I thought they’d go up”.
