HELPING HAND
If you have ever been interested in community service outside of school, Project Hope is a community service youth group centered around helping our community. The group organizes monthly cleanups, volunteer events, and movie nights for the community. It’s a free program offered to those 12 and up, offering community service hours, and holding meetings every month from 6 to 7 at the Arlanza Community Center at Bryant Park.
Project Hope currently has 2 people leading it, with Fatima Gonzales as the director and also being a Norte Vista Alumni, and Alexa as the leader of the group, both managing it. It offers amazing opportunities for students, getting them more involved, allowing them to develop valuable life skills, and have a positive impact on the community. They are very welcoming towards those interested in joining the group, and recommend it to high school students, alongside middle schoolers.
“I love how the program brings everyone together to make a difference. It’s rewarding to see the results of our efforts and to connect with people who share the same passion for giving back to the community,” Alexa said.
“I highly recommend that students join Project Hope because it offers a safe, supportive environment where students can thrive academically and personally,” Gonzalez said.
Abel Duarte Rangel, a sophomore at Norte Vista school, also highly recommends the program. “I like it because you can socialize with more people and get connections with community officials. I would recommend it to others because you can get hours of community service, and it looks great for colleges.” Rangel said.
