PARTY AT THE PARRANDA
For those who are unaware, “Parranda Nite!” is an event dedicated to Hispanic Heritage Month. The main planner of the event was Arlene Maldonado, with the assistance of Mr. Hughes, who is the Teacher of ASB, as well his students such as Kathy Cuellar, Anna Garcia, Giovanni Sanchez, and including a few others.
This event has been worked on for a while, specifically since the end of July. “At the end of July, we started planning it. So for about three months,” said Maldonado.
This was an event open to the community, with the target audience being families and students. The goal was for them to have a good time and experience Norte Vista’s pride. “I hope that we get more kids into actually coming to events and stuff like this one,” said Maldonado.
The event served to not only celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, but also to help clubs and programs fundraise for their field trips, materials, and more. One of these programs was film production, which was selling fresas con crema, in hopes of raising money for new equipment. ”Right now we are fundraising to get better equipment,” said Valerie Gonzalez.
Film production had many customers, one of them being the new Vice Principal, Mr.Gatson. “ So far so good, I got my snow cone and strawberries con fresa here,” said Mr Gatson.
One of the other booths that had many customers was the Hot Dog stand. This stand was managed by Band, and the students’ Booster parents were managing the stand and cooking the food.
“We are gathering money for the competitions and everything they are planning to do in October,” said Mediam Castel Doras. Mrs Doras was one of the parents who was assisting in fundraising for the Band class/club. She directed and helped manage the stand throughout the night.
The event was a huge success, with many families in attendance. It wasn’t just an event for people to go and eat, though; this event consisted of much more, including live performances from a banda, Baile Folklorico, and a rock performance given by students.
While there are many events yet to come, Mr. Gatson stated, “This event set my bar high for the events to come, as I enjoy this one a lot! Now I wonder what they’ll do for the rest of them.”
