Inflation continues to rise, and production value decreases. All around the globe, especially the U.S., recent installments of tariffs on imports of goods have caused a recession. These tariffs were put into place on March 12th, 2025, and have drastically changed the quality and price of products, affecting vital items like precious metals, food, and materials. This has led to a lot of “panic buying.”
The tariffs’ effect on tech is specifically a worry. The current state of the prices when it comes to devices like computers and mobile phones has increased compared to before. This doesn’t just affect one demographic it affects people of all ages as tech is a necessity in the modern day. Both work and school are now becoming more expensive. Office computers are now more costly and even laptops and big screens teachers use to educate have gone up in price.
“I usually order four to five new teacher laptops every year, because they break and need to be replaced. This year though, I was only able to order two, because the price increased to almost double. The cost of a laptop today is not what it was last year, or the years before. I ordered the laptops about a week and a half ago and it ended up costing somewhere around 2,000 to 2,500 for just two.” – Mr. Marquez.
Even with recent news of the tariffs excluding tech to keep things affordable for consumers, importing raw materials to build these tech products in the US is still going to bring up the price materials such as iron, copper, and other precious metals are still affected by the tariffs. Schools will be seriously affected by these tariffs.
“Each school gets a budget every year. If everything goes up, everything costs more and it’s harder to do field trips. It’s harder to pay for buses and it’s harder to purchase supplies for teachers and students, like toilet paper. The tariffs will affect the school in the long run.”- Mr. Marquez.
The tariffs will affect Norte Vista as stated by the principal. Norte Vista students will no longer be able to go on field trips or get the supplies needed for school. Computers given by the school will no longer be available. As with toilet paper, which is heavily needed for the on-campus bathrooms. Tariffs will become a significant obstacle for students, teachers, and school districts.
The tariffs will have a bad impact on the US economy in the long run. People not being able to access affordable and fair prices is going to limit business along with smaller corporations, and schools not being able to continue to thrive. Along with this, the hourly payment rate will most likely decrease as a result, This will further plunge the US economy into the hole it is in now.
