The Norte Vista High School Soccer Boys JV team is experiencing some changes. Teammates have expressed the changes within the team. JV coach Christian Bailor expresses he is excited for his new team to be the best one yet. He discusses the upcoming events that the team is looking forward to, like the Novi Classic and the beginning of their official season.
In insight on the coach, he was a coach at Loma Middle School before he transferred to Norte Vista High School. He notes that some students transferred just to be on the Norte Vista Soccer team.
“A lot of the freshmen came from Loma, so I already knew some of them. I told them, ‘Hey, you know if you like soccer, I recommend Novi.’ So I was able to get some of them to come out here,” Bailor shares.
This gives us an insight into the coach he is, students look up to him and are willing to transfer to Norte Vista High School to become the best and be coached by an amazing coach. Christian expresses he is excited to work with his new team. He isn’t worried about getting his new team out of their comfort zone to potentially win the league.
“We have some returning JV members and some newer freshmen that just came in. So a lot of them have a lot of potential so just looking forward to hopefully getting to know this team to mesh and hopefully progress,” Bailor says.
The JV Captains, Jose Nunez, and Jerando Alejandra express they feel it is a privilege to be the leaders of their squad, and they feel like the big brothers. Jerando feels good about being a leader and felt not intimidated when chosen but felt like he worked hard for his position. He expresses half his teammates left last year, but is looking forward to creating new bonds and a new challenge.
“I feel like we’re barely getting started, so there’s still time to improve. I feel like we’re doing pretty good right now as a new team. There’s half new teammates so we just have to find our groove,” Nunez says.
The team is full of potential and the squad is restricted to prove to the school they are more than just a JV team. The JV team has recently lost against Carter High School and Roosevelt High School and is planning on making a comeback to prove they are showing dedication. Abraham Santa speaks up about how their team needs more team bonding because he can feel the disconnect with his teammates out on the field.
“you can be a good player, but not click with the team,” Santa stated.
Coach Bailor expresses how his team is putting in the work but their team has been getting caught in a net. As a coach, he highlights the importance and the expectations the team needs from him, like positively, and encouraging them and overall never giving up on the team. And he will continue to push his team even on their bad days.
“Once we start getting more goals. Once people start scoring more goals, I think their confidence is going to go up, and then hopefully, it’s definitely going to take some time. We’re trying our best, you know, that should be a good outcome at the end of the day. That’s all that matters, is to always stay positive,” Coach Bailor noted.
