Chief Justice of CA Supreme Court Patricia Guerrero visits Novi and presents the Civic Learning Award Of Excellence for 2025
Norte Vista High School was awarded the Civic Learning Award of Excellence for 2025. On Tuesday, September 16, the Chief Justice of California’s Supreme Court, Patricia Guerrero, visited the school along with a delegation of judges and local officials to present the award. Norte Vista is the only high school in California to receive this level of recognition for 2025. This award was achieved through the efforts of staff and students of Norte Vista.
“These programs are student-led and student-chosen, so you can find something passionate and meaningful about them,” Guerrero said.
This event was made possible with the help of Ms. Amanda Bush, who sent the application to the California Department of Education, allowing Norte Vista to be properly acknowledged. Bush described the application process for the Civic Learning Award as long and detailed.
“We have to outline the major service projects on our campus, who is involved, the students that are involved, the impact, and to describe what it is that they’re actually achieving. But, we have to include the teachers, the students, the PTO support from our administration, who our community partners are, and the diversity of programming that we offer,” Bush said.
Norte Vista had various showcases that included Floral, National Honors Society (NHS), Global, Woodshop, Bilingual Alvord Tutoring Students (B.A.T.S.) Green Construction Academy (G.C.A.), Junior Optimist, and Neighborhood Meals. Each group presented to the chief justice and local officials before the award was received.
“Seeing you all here in person just underscores what an easy choice this was. You guys stood out on paper, and you stand out even more. Having students here has been an honor,” said Chief Justice Guerrero.
