The long-standing daycare at Norte Vista, operated by Riverside County, has closed due to financial constraints and a decline in teen pregnancy.
The daycare served many teens from various high schools by providing daycare for their children. However, in recent years, the number of pregnant students has decreased from 15 students to 1-2 students.
“I don’t know if that’s true, just because, kids are having safe sex, but I just know there were fewer students, and so I think they took that into account … 15 students back then and now, maybe two, maybe one,” said Mr Marquez.
There were even bumper stickers in relation to the reputation Novi had with teenage pregnancies. The bumper sticker reads, “if you want to have a kid, go to Norte Vista high school.” Despite Norte Vista formerly having a reputation for teenage pregnancies, that is no longer the case.
